Carmen Popoviciu about A talk on Neural Nets and Machine Learning over a big jar of Skittles at JS Kongress Munich

You may have heard the buzz about neural networks and machine learning? For a good reason: This subset of technology can unearth all kinds of useful new insights in data and teach computers to do things like understand human speech and see things. But when you learn about this technology from a textbook, many people find yourself overwhelmed by mathematical models and formulas.

The potential of machine learning and neural networks in the browser
With a few exceptions, the field of machine learning (ML) and neural networks (NN) has largely ignored the browser as a computational engine so far. The ubiquity of the browser as a computational engine makes has vast potential to bring, inexpensively and on a massive scale, sophisticated ML learning and prediction to the public at large.

Carmen’s goal is to present the basics, look at different neural network models and implementations, go through a few live “hello world” examples, and discuss how we could bring it all together into the browser.

Carmen is a front-end developer. She became fascinated by Neural Networks and Machine Learning a while back and has, since then, set on a secret mission to understand how they work and build something awesome with them. But pssst…don’t tell anyone!
